Emmerdale spoilers: Ruby set to confess her role in a major death as funeral tragedy rocks the village
The village is still reeling from the shock of Ethan Anderson’s (Emile John) sudden death, but no one more so than Ruby Fox-Miligan (Beth Cordingly), who cruelly ran him over with her car in revenge for Nicky’s (Lewis Cope) accident that Ethan caused.
That said, she dodged a bullet when he died and took the secret of her involvement with Rose – which will see Dawn become collateral damage – to the grave.
Initially, Ethan had got up and walked away from the hit and run, albeit in agonising pain, and Ruby made it clear that if he was to reveal her identity as the driver, she’d finish the job.
He appeared to recover, but in a saddening twist, he clutched his head in pain before collapsing at home and dying.
Now the gravity and the guilt of the situation sets in for Ruby – her vengeful actions have taken a life. Whatever her level of anger towards Ethan, she hadn’t intended to kill. Even for Ruby, murder is one step too far.
Ruby is taken aback when Manpreet (Rebecca Sarker) confides in her about Charles’ (Kevin Mathurin) behaviour since Ethan died. In a tasteless move, Ruby heads to the church with the intention of helping, and on finding Charles, she offers him comfort. He accepts and she takes his hand.
This goes some way to assuage her guilt and she heads home preparing to repair things with her family. She vows to turn herself into the police, and as she breaks down in tears, a reluctant Nicky consoles her.
Caleb (Will Ash) is the opposite of understanding when he learns of Ruby’s plan. He tries to force Ruby to change her mind but it’s a hard task with someone as stubborn as an ox.
Ruby heads over to Woodbine to continue her support of Charles, where he gives her news that makes her heart stop – the coroner has established a cause of death for Ethan. The jig is up for Ruby, just as the day of Ethan’s funeral comes around.
Charles struggles to lead the service as Ruby is weighed by the knowledge of what she now knows.
Will she follow through with her promise to give herself up, or will she take drastic action to protect her freedom?
