Emmerdale’s Belle Dingle makes chilling realisation about Tom King after she makes a life-changing decision
Gradually Emmerdale’s Belle Dingle (Eden Taylor-Draper) is beginning to realise that her relationship with Tom King (James Chase) isn’t normal, and in Tuesday (June 18)’s episode she made a huge discovery that could change everything.
Belle has recently found out she’s pregnant. Tom is over the moon because it’s everything he ever wanted, even though he knew that Belle had huge misgivings.
Belle has already spoken to Wendy Posner (Susan Cookson) about her options, and in this episode she had an online appointment with a midwife to discuss a termination.
Away from Tom and the pressure to have to pretend to be happy about the pregnancy, Belle admitted to the midwife that she was worried about her mental health and was concerned that she couldn’t cope with a baby.
She cited recent events, such as being locked in the house and accidentally starting a fire, as proof that she wasn’t able to care for herself, let alone a child.
Viewers know that it was Tom who locked her in, and that he’s the reason Belle’s mental health has deteriorated as he’s gaslit her and done his best to isolate her from friends and family and make her anxious about being home alone.
The midwife noticed she was jumpy as she worried about Tom coming back in while she was on the call. Eventually Belle confirmed that she wanted to have a termination as soon as possible.
Since Tom sold Belle’s car, she had to book a taxi for the appointment but found there wasn’t enough money in the joint bank account to cover the fare.
Tom set up the account as another way of controlling his wife and makes sure there’s only a very minimum amount available to her.
So Belle came up with a plan and when Tom returned she asked him to take a picture of her. Mandy had done her makeup at the salon and Tom agreed she was looking especially good, so he was happy to take the picture.
As he unlocked his phone Belle made mental note of his passcode. She then suggested he went for a shower, and took the opportunity to unlock his phone.
Unfortunately she couldn’t access the bank account, but while she was looking at the phone she noticed another app – the one Tom uses to track her every movement.
As Belle thinks about this she’ll realise it explains how Tom always turns up exactly where she is and how he knows what she’s doing. But whether this could be the catalyst she needs to reach out and get some help remains to be seen.
