Emmerdale’s Tom King actor James Chase has seemingly confirmed the villain’s fate ahead of a deadly electrocution twist next week on the ITV soap.

Not only that, but the soap star and the show’s producer Laura Shaw have given new details about Tom’s ‘confirmed’ comeuppance, and how long the abuse storyline involving Belle Dingle is likely to go on for. Viewers know that Tom has been manipulating, controlling and isolating his wife for months as part of a harrowing coercive control storyline.

Tom has recently turned violent, and things are only set to get worse when he learns Belle has had an abortion after claiming to have suffered a miscarriage. Next week Tom is left lifeless after accidentally electrocuting himself while trashing a barn.

But amid spoilers remaining coy over his fate, the actor and producer Laura appear to have confirmed Tom does survive the incident, and the storyline is far from over. Tom actor James suggested the villain “had to” face comeuppance at some point, teasing he will be exposed.

Laura, meanwhile, told The Mirror and other press that they have had a planned ending for the storyline since the beginning, revealing it would run until the end of this year. Laura shared the team’s hopes to reflect the storyline realistically, not wanting it to be a short plot for that reason.

She explained: “We said right from the beginning we wanted to tell the story as truthfully and authentically as we can. This isn’t something that is over in a couple of weeks, it goes on for a long length of time. Viewers can expect the storyline to run until the end of this year.”

On the ending, she teased: “I think I’ve always had a good idea of how we’d want it to end. We’ve found new twists and turns as it’s gone through, but I’ve always had a picture in my head of where it would end.”

James said of Tom facing his comeuppance: “I think it has to happen because it’s what he deserves. He can’t get away with it. I don’t know to what extent [how it will end]. Belle needs justice for what’s happened to her and the audience needs that.

“We have to see her win in the end or for him to lose.” Not wanting to give away what this ending might be, James teased Tom should “at least” face prison. But Laura warned it was far from over and there was more ahead, saying: “What we will see is Tom finding different ways to manipulate Belle and control Belle. We will see an escalation.”
