The source of Billy Fletcher’s (Jay Kontzle) cash injection has been revealed in Emmerdale, and it could have devastating consequences for his family.

As viewers of the ITV soap know, Billy’s wife Dawn (Olivia Bromley) became concerned when she found a wad of cash in their new home, Holdgate Farm.

Crafty Billy thought up a quick lie and told her they were ‘savings for a surprise’, which luckily she bought.

In tonight’s episode, she was more distracted by the prospect of getting their little boy Evan – who has spent months in hospital receiving treatment following a heartbreaking leukaemia diagnosis – home for a few weeks.

Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb) arrived and told Billy that he’d sourced a car for him in Bradford, and suggested that he should head over there to pick it up before it was snapped up.

However, it seemed he had other plans…

Later in the episode we saw a furious Dawn stood on the road outside Holdgate, ready to head to the hospital. Billy was nowhere to be seen.

Luckily, Gabby Thomas (Rosie Bentham) drove past, and offered her a lift. Dawn expressed her concerns about Evan’s health and whether or not her husband could commit to the intense few weeks ahead.

Meanwhile, back in the village, Mack noticed Billy stumble and drop down against the side of the hall. Not only was his face badly bleeding, but he had an open wound on his side.

Billy received an offer (Picture: ITV)

Dragging him into Jacob’s Fold (and onto Charity’s nice white sofa…), Mack urged his mate to get his injuries properly cared for.

Billy was insistent that nobody professional should be involved, having explained that he had been fighting at an underground boxing club.

John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth), who was previously an army medic, was called and he dressed the gash on his stomach before warning that if he took part in another fight, he could be killed.

Returning home, Billy made an excuse that he’d been caught up at a Boxercise class and apologised to Dawn. When she went off to tend to Evan, he received a call asking if he wanted to get into the ring again next week – for double the money.

Will Billy be tempted by the offer?
