Ross Barton (Michael Parr) nearly made the biggest mistake of his life in Emmerdale as he fired a gun in a barn while looking for an intruder, unaware that son Moses was nearby.

The character, who staged quite a return this week, has landed himself a job up at Butler’s Farm after ex Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) put in a good word for him with Cain (Jeff Hordley).

Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb), who also works up at Butlers, was less than pleased about such a thing but he out his own feelings aside, prepared to give him a chance as he dished out instructions for the farm’s newest recruit on his first day.

Ross, however, was somewhat distracted after receiving repeated texts from Jade (Twinnie-Lee Moore), who made it quite clear that she’s not to be messed with as she ordered him to take part in another fight.

With Mack having spotted intruders on the land, Ross feared that this was Jade and her cronies trying to intimidate him and therefore he attempted to throw the farmhand off the scent, saying he would check it out.

But as he walked into the barn with a gun in hand, he decided to shoot a warning shot in a bid to taunt the person shuffling about above.

Little did he know, however, that the person in question was none other than his son Moses. Moses emerged from the shadows, accompanied by Mack, who was horrified that Ross not only used Moira’s (Natalie J Robb) gun but that he shot the weapon while his son was in the vicinity.

Ross knew he messed up.

Mack, meanwhile, relayed his actions to Charity, who was equally shocked by what had unfolded.

Without wasting a second, Charity gave Ross both barrels for running around with a loaded shotgun, branding his actions ‘stupid’ and ‘dangerous’.

Ross was apologetic at first but he soon reverted to form, insinuating that the only reason Charity is trying to help him is because there is a spark between them.

The question is: is he correct? Or is Charity happy in her marriage to Mack?
