Ruby snaps and hits her own daughter as she hides traumatic childhood secret in Emmerdale
It’s been known for ages that Nicky (Lewis Cope) isn’t Ruby Fox-Miligan (Beth Cordingly) and Caleb Miligan’s (William Ash) only child in Emmerdale, but we only started to learn more about Stephanie a few weeks ago.
When Caleb visited Ruby’s dying mum Helen in hospital, he was rattled when she mention Steph. It was established that Steph hasn’t contacted her parents for ages, with Caleb adopting the view if she wanted to get in touch, she would.
Recently, Ruby left the village hoping to reconnect with Nicky.
In upcoming episodes, attention moves from Nicky and onto Steph (played by newcomer Georgia Jay), as the mother and daughter come face to face after so many years.
During Ruby’s attempt at getting to the bottom of Steph’s relationship with Helen, she’s taken aback when the newcomer continuously berates Ruby for her troubled childhood.
Pushed over the edge, Ruby snaps and slaps Steph. In the split seconds after, Ruby feels awful and apologises, but Steph claims that her mum never care about her.
After a chat with Chas Dingle (Lucy Pargeter), Caleb finds Ruby in a state. He puts his wife at ease and insists that Steph will come round, but there’s a sense Ruby is still hiding something.
The next day, Steph reluctantly agrees to go for a coffee with Ruby. Just as they sit down and get chatting, things grind to a halt due to the arrival of Anthony, Ruby’s father.
In complete disbelief, Ruby storms out after announcing she wants nothing to do with her dad. Running into Caleb, Ruby asks to be taken home, but he decides to have a word with Anthony first.
After a heated conversation, Caleb is struck by Anthony’s sincerity and accepts a mysterious box from him as a gift for Ruby.
Returning home, will Caleb be able to convince Ruby to listen to what her dad has to say?
