Two Emmerdale icons arrested after kidnapping a teenager
This article contains spoilers for Thursday’s (10 July) episode of Emmerdale, which is already available on ITVX.
Moira Dingle (Natalie J Robb) and Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb) found themselves on the wrong side of the law with their latest quest to get Matty Barton (Ash Palmisciano) out of prison in Emmerdale.
The siblings were arrested in Thursday’s episode of the ITV soap, after they were double-crossed by Samson Dingle (Sam Hall).
Matty is wrongfully in prison after Samson told the police that Matty stabbed him in an unprovoked attack. Viewers know that the ‘stabbing’ was an accident and was caused by Samson’s horrible friend Josh (Osian Morgan) pushing him at Matty, who was holding a kitchen knife.
In the latest scenes, Moira was left devastated after learning Matty had been beaten in his cell, and she and Mack plotted to get Samson to tell the truth once and for all.
Kidnapping him from the Dingles’, they took him back to Butler’s Farm, where Moira made a number of pleas for him to confess.
She pointed out how it had been eight years since the death of daughter Holly Barton (Sophie Powles), and how she feels the need to protect her children. She then made a powerful statement about the struggles transgender people face in society, and what Matty must be going through in prison as a result.
Samson eventually admitted Josh was the one who made him attack Matty with the bottle. However, he insisted that there was no point telling the police as Josh would deny the story.
Seeing an opportunity, Mack suggested Samson and Matty should work together and lie to the police, telling them Josh was the one who attacked Matty.
Seemingly persuaded, Moira drove Samson to the police station for him to give a statement, but he refused to let her accompany him inside.
Unfortunately, it turned out Samson had no intention of telling the truth – and as police later arrived at Butler’s Farm, Moira and Mack were stunned to learn he’d reported them for kidnapping him.
The pair were arrested, leaving Moira’s husband Cain reeling. Will this latest development finally force Cain into taking action against Samson?
Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
