Hollyoaks spoilers follow for Wednesday’s episode (February 5), which is available to watch now on streaming service Channel 4 and hasn’t yet aired on TV.
Hollyoaks star Nadine Mulkerrin has reacted to her character Cleo McQueen’s surprising new love interest, who has been revealed in today’s episode.
This week, Abe Fielding crashed into his brother Joel on the road – after a tense stand-off in The Hutch that ended with Tony being stabbed.
Joel saw red and beat up Abe, as revenge for sexually assaulting his wife Leela, before putting him in the car and heading to the hospital. However, Cleo took matters into her own hands by stealing Joel’s car keys and driving off with Abe in the boot.
Meanwhile, Sienna and the Blakes were concerned that the police would find out the truth about Dilly, after Martha revealed that she had let slip to Abe where she is buried.
Sienna caught Cleo with Abe, and decided to help her move him – and he ended up in the room in his flat where he previously held Cleo captive.
In today’s episode, Cleo attempted to poison her abuser with a bowl of porridge, but when Abe discovered what she was doing, he threw it at her in a rage.
As broken Cleo cleaned herself up in the shower, Sienna offered her a shoulder to cry on. In an emotional scene, the pair realised that they had a connection and they shared a passionate kiss.
Actor Mulkerrin shared her thoughts on this unexpected romance and said: “I want the fans to be surprised but also secretly not that surprised. It’s lovely working with Anna Passey, she’s amazing. They’re two tortured souls with a lot going on, lots of secrets and history there.
“I get it, I’m rooting for them, and I hope the audience are too. I think they will be quite surprised at this new little relationship as it blossoms.”
This episode also saw the end of Abe as he was killed in dramatic fashion in the woods, bringing to an end his year-long stint as a major show villain.
“This week was bittersweet because obviously it was the end of Tyler Conti’s time on the show,” Mulkerrin reflected. “I have absolutely loved working with him since I’ve come back and I’m in a state of mourning now, I just really miss him. Abe was evil but Tyler is the best.”
