Hollyoaks star teases big surprises in dramatic criminal storyline

“Most of my scenes lately have been like Line of Duty!” chuckles Hollyoaks star Louis Emerick, aka detective Donny Clark, as we sit down for an exclusive chat.
“I’ve been in the interview room with Drew Cain, who plays DI Banks. That’s been great, he’s a wonderful actor and all those interactions have been a favourite of mine.”
It’s a village rife with wrongdoing at the best of times, but the underworld is getting a little too close to home – as Donny learns next week when he digs for information in his quest to protect Dillon.
Aside from the dark and dingy world of crime, we were eager to question Louis on Donny’s lovely relationship with Misbah…
Hi, Louis! It’s been almost a year since we first met Donny. How’s life in Hollyoaks?
“I’m loving it! It’s been great to be involved in so many different storylines. I absolutely adore working with Harvey [Virdi] as Misbah, I’ve struck gold in that relationship because she’s wonderful.
“The domestic side has been put on hold a little bit while the police stuff has taken centre stage, but it’s so great for me as an actor to be interacting with plenty of other characters.”
With a dominant criminal underworld in the village, could Donny be the one to take them down?
“I think he’s going to figure quite strongly, but there might be some other assistance, some reluctant, that will surprise the viewers. It’s going to be quite exciting!”
What do you like most about the character of Donny?
“The things I really like are that he’s a good father and also that he has a nice little sense of humour. Donny doesn’t take life too seriously because all the serious stuff happens at work in the police station.”
We love Donny and Misbah! What do you think makes them a great couple?
“It’s funny because you wouldn’t automatically put them together, but when I did my screen test, it was with Harvey. There was a lovely feeling, we just bounced off each other. I don’t know if executive producer Hannah Cheers saw something there! But Misbah’s found a kindred spirit in Donny, and they’re able to open up to each other.”
