Hollyoaks airs horrifying Joel and Tommy twist in early streaming release
Tommy's motivations are revealed.
Hollyoaks spoilers follow for Wednesday’s episode (April 2), which is available to watch now on streaming service Channel 4 and hasn’t yet aired on TV.
Hollyoaks has aired a shocking twist involving Joel Dexter and Tommy Odenkirk, in the show’s latest episode.
Viewers know that Tommy has been stalking Joel for unknown reasons and has been trying to get close to him through counselling sessions with his wife Leela – although he isn’t actually a licensed therapist.
This week, Tommy went to desperate lengths to persuade Joel to have therapy sessions himself, and Joel eventually agreed out of pity.
In today’s episode, Tommy called round to offer Joel a session for that day, and he overheard a disagreement between Joel, Leela and Marie about Tony.
After he left, Joel and Leela continued arguing, and Leela discovered that Tommy had taken Joel’s side when he had opened up about their problems.
Leela was furious about Tommy’s interference and urged Joel to stop seeing him, admitting that the therapist had previously tried to kiss her.
She suspected that there was something suspicious about Tommy, so Joel took action to stop him hurting another patient.
Joel interrupted Tommy’s therapy session with Jez to confront him about his inappropriate behaviour. He threatened Tommy and hit a cupboard door – which opened and revealed the creepy shrine to Joel.
He was understandably shocked and demanded answers, so Tommy told Joel that he has been lonely since his brother suffered a head trauma a year ago and fell into a coma.
Tommy also explained that the situation is complicated, as his brother tortured him physically and emotionally in their childhood and as adults.
As Joel threatened to report his obsession, Tommy showed him a photo of his brother Billy, but was surprised that Joel didn’t remember him.

Tommy then took Joel to the hospital to see Billy, and to jog his memory about why he is in this serious condition.
“Now I finally get the chance to thank you for saving me from him, and for being my hero,” he said. “Him lying there like that – you did it. You put him in that coma.”
