Hollyoaks fans say dead character is ‘alive’ as they ‘work out’ identity of J

Hollyoaks viewers are convinced they know who J is after the Channel 4 soap seemed to confirm that a dead character is still alive, with Ste Hay growing increasingly worried

Hollyoaks fans believe they’ve got to the bottom of a new puzzle presented by the Channel 4 drama, centring around newcomer Rex Gallagher (portrayed by Jonny Labey).

Tension unraveled when Freddie Roscoe (played by Charlie Clapham) uncovered that Grace Black (Tamara Wall) had deceived him regarding his daughter Lexi Roscoe’s (Marnie Fletcher) mishap, revealing that her own son Curtis Royle (Reuben Shepherd) was responsible for the injury.

The plot thickened as Ste Hay (Kieron Richardson) called out Rex for giving him the cold shoulder after providing an alibi. Rex admitted being troubled by the situation with Freddie and Grace.

In a twist of events, Ste watched Rex huddle with Misbah Maalik (Harvey Virdi), who ominously insisted she would “make sure there is no trace of him at the house”. Ste jumped to conclusions about their chatter being related to his deceased partner James Nightingale (Gregory Finnegan).

In another twist, Rex slipped his nephew Curtis £100 to stick to their story about Lexi, only for it to come out that Rex was the one who injured her, causing her epilepsy and Freddie heard every word.

Freddie saw red and decked Rex, and then Grace got wind of the scandal. Rex tried to spin a yarn, saying Curtis and Lexi had cooked up an imaginary mate named ‘J’, sending letters in his bag to chat with him.

Rex admitted that Lexi grabbed something dodgy from his bag, leading to a tussle where she took a nasty fall. He scarpered, leaving her with a head injury that triggered a seizure when Freddie walked in.

Later on, Curtis quizzed about his pal ‘J’, but Grace shut it down, insisting ‘J’ was a figment of his imagination. Yet, the episode closed on a cliffhanger with some shadowy figure penning a note from ‘J’: “I am still trapped in the house please come soon.”

The plot thickens as fans reckon James might have dodged death despite being blown to bits in a car before the Channel 4 soap’s time leap last September. Hitting Twitter, one viewer speculated: “James I say still alive.”

Another chimed in: “Maybe Curtis and Lexi are writing notes to ‘J’ and it’s Rex keeping James hidden once why they kept giving him letters to give to him? “. And another theorised: “I think it’s James.”

The handwriting matched the notes that Ste had previously discovered on Rex’s desk. Is Ste just being paranoid about James, or is there a darker plot at play?
