Hollyoaks ‘confirms’ controversial serial killer story with ‘many dead bodies’
Hollyoaks spoilers follow for Wednesday’s (November 27) episode that is now available to view on Channel 4 streaming. The episode in question will air on E4 on at 7pm.
Hollyoaks appears to have confirmed that Martha Blake (Sherrie Hewson) has claimed a number of lives, adding further fuel to the contentious theory that the character is a killer.
Reports in the media earlier in the year suggested that the character, who has now allegedly been diagnosed with Alzheimers, would become one of soap’s oldest serial killers.
The reports received quite a reception from upset fans, who made their feelings known at the time.
Subsequent scenes cast doubt about whether the story would come to pass, with Jez (Jeremy Sheffield) the more villainous of the two newcomers, but Wednesday’s edition of the Channel 4 soap now appears to suggest that the initial reports were in fact correct.
Prior to her return this week, Martha was last seen before the time jump struggling to remember her home address when asked for it by the taxi driver, which implies that she does – much like Jez stated – have issues with her memory.
In the latest offering of the serial, Jez told Martha that she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s during the ‘missing’ year and, what’s more, he claimed that she killed Ethan Williams (Matthew James Bailey).
Fan-favourite Ethan, as viewers know, was tragically killed off on his wedding day to love of his life Sienna Blake (Anna Passey) when he was pushed from the bridal suite of the wedding venue.
Sienna was blamed for the crime and imprisoned but Jez worked his magic and had her freed in time for her soulmate’s wake.
Martha, meanwhile, was horrified to learn that she’d claimed the life of Sienna’s husband, struggling to recall such a thing.
When Jez’s back was turned, she made her way to Oakdale Drive to confess all to Sienna but ultimately she was unable to do so, instead agreeing to move in with her granddaughter so that they could build a relationship.
Jez, whose murderous tendencies all but disappeared in the time jump, was horrified to learn of such a thing as he talked to Martha about keeping shtum about Ethan.
Martha reiterated her intention to keep quiet, claiming that she did Sienna a favour by killing Ethan. Jez was as confused as all of us by such a sentiment but things took a dark turn when Martha stated that if anyone treats Sienna badly then she’ll ‘do the same to them’.
Jez urged his mum to reconsider. ‘We can’t have any more accidents’, he said. ‘We both know how wilful you can be. This family has seen too many dead bodies already.’
Martha stated that she wouldn’t lay a finger on anyone, which left Jez relieved – that is, until she added: ‘Unless they give me reason to’.
Does this prove tha, Martha is going to be a killer after all? If so, who will she claim next?
And more importantly, did she really kill Ethan? And either way, will he get justice?
