Hollyoaks ‘confirms’ Abe comeuppance as Cleo escapes her captor in unexpected wedding twist
Cleo McQueen (Nadine Mulkerrin) takes her chance to escape captivity in Hollyoaks later this month, manipulating captor Abe Fielding (Tyler Conti) into thinking that she’s dying.
The nurse, as viewers know, has been held captive for over a year in the Channel 4 soap’s fictional timeline and upcoming scenes will see her seize an opportunity to flee.
With Abe engaged to Peri Lomax (Ruby O’Donnell), a Christmas wedding beckons, despite the fact that the abuser has told prisoner Cleo that he’s called things off with her former colleague.
Believing that Abe intends to marry her instead, Cleo gets quite a shock when she realises that her captor has been playing her this whole time and that he’s still intent on marrying Peri.
But the bigger shock comes just moments later as she discovers the truth about supposedly dead Marie (Rita Simons).
Abe, as fans know, led Cleo to believe that she’d killed his mum during her attempt to flee the village on a motorbike, so the fact that Marie is alive and well is yet another thing that the abuser has lied about.
After the initial shock sets in it, Cleo wastes little time in plotting her revenge, telling Abe that her eating disorder is back and that she’s dying. Pretended that she has accepted such a fate, she asks him to grant her final wish by marrying her.
Playing him at his own game,Cleo manipulates her captor into letting her outside so that they can exchange their vows.
As Peri’s hen night gets underway at The Loft, Abe takes Cleo to the folly, which is all dressed and decorated for his wedding to Peri.
Cleo exchanges her vows with Abe and as soon as the ceremony is completed, she collapses. Abe fears the worst and, unable to wake her, he wraps her in a blanket and puts her in a car.
As confirmed in Hollyoaks’ Winter Trailer, the abuser disposes of Cleo’s body in the river but, once he’s out of sight, Cleo crawls back to dry land, proving to be very much alive as she decides to enact her revenge plot.
The following day, preparations for the wedding get underway and Peri tells Leela Dexter (Kirsty-Leigh Porter) that if she cannot support her relationship with Abe then she’s not welcome at the wedding.
Marie, meanwhile, reassures Peri that Abe is ready and waiting to marry her at the folly. But it turns out that Marie hasn’t actually spoken to son Abe on the day in question and thus she sets off to find him.
The matriarch finds the groom-to-be at his flat. Abe, struggling to process recent events, tells Marie that he’s done a terrible thing but, before he can elaborate, Marie tells him to get ready and marry Peri, which will wipe the slate clean.
Cleo, meanwhile, manages to stop a passing car, with the driver turning out to be none other than Pearl Anderson (Dawn Hope), who is stunned to see her sights upon the nurse. Pearl offers Cleo a lift to the village.
The stage is ultimately set for the wedding, with Abe on the way to the folly to marry Peri. But will he make it there before Cleo, who intends to expose him for what he’s put her through?
That remains to be seen, but the wedding itself proves rather shocking, with Marie questioned by the police in the aftermath.
The question is: just what has transpired? Has Abe finally been taken down?
The villain, as viewers know, has a lot to answer for, with scenes earlier this week having confirmed that he raped Leela during the ‘missing’ year.
