Brookside icon Alex Fletcher’s real-life daughter Yasmin Davies has signed up for Hollyoaks Later.

Alex is best known for portraying Jacqui Dixon in the Channel 4 soap between 1990 and 2003 and currently stars as Diane Hutchinson in Hollyoaks.

Yasmin will take on the role of newcomer Esme Dixon, a Brookside resident and Jacqui’s daughter, who offers an escape for Frankie Osborne (Isabelle Smith).

The special late-night episode follows teenagers Dillon Ray (Nathaniel Dass), Lucas Hay (Oscar Curtis), Vicky Grant (Anya Lawrence) and Frankie as they attempt to make sense of their lives and relationships following the traumatic impact of child exploitation.

Discussing her new part, Yasmin said: “I heard so much about Brookside when I was growing up. My parents met when they were both working on the show.”, reports the Liverpool Echo.

“My dad Neil doesn’t act anymore, but obviously my mum now plays Diane Hutchinson on Hollyoaks. Brookside is a big part of my family and who I am.”

When asked if Esme shares similarities with her mum, the young actress explained: “From the scenes I’ve watched of Jacqui, I saw she wasn’t afraid to call people out or take the mickey.

Esme “brings escapism” for Frankie Osborne

“There’s a moment where Esme really sticks up for someone, so I’d say she’s definitely got similar traits to her mum. She knows when something isn’t right, she’s quite quick and a bit fiery as well.”

Speaking about whether viewers might see Esme return in the coming months, Yasmin hinted: “I think so, but as of now nothing is in place.

“That’s not to say Esme can’t come back so maybe in the future we will see her again. It would be funny if she had a scene with Diane, people’s heads will be wrecked.”
