Youngster rushed to hospital in Coronation Street after devastating act

This article contains spoilers for tonight’s (Sunday, June 7) Coronation Street, which has not yet aired on TV but is available to watch now on YouTube and ITVX.
Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce) was given a devastating shock in tonight’s Coronation Street when he discovered that Summer Spellman (Harriet Bibby) had been rushed to hospital.
It has been a tough time for Summer since Theo Silverton’s murder in April. She became the prime suspect after the police found evidence that contradicted her initial statement, and her fate was sealed when Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall) refused to confirm her story.
It all began when Summer told the police that she hadn’t seen Theo for several days before his death. Unfortunately for her, detectives Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) and Lisa Connor-Swain (Vicky Myers) found a brooch in Theo’s flat which they were later able to link to Summer, proving she’d been with him that night.
To make matters worse, George Shuttleworth (Tony Maudsley) found Summer’s diary, where she had detailed her hatred of Theo. After battling with his conscience, George told Lisa that he’d seen Summer leaving Theo’s flat that night, which ultimately led to her arrest.
Summer maintained her innocence and told Lisa that Tyrone had also seen her leave and had seen that Theo was very much still alive.

However, with Tyrone lying to protect himself, Summer was charged with Theo’s murder and sent to prison to await trial.
Things aren’t looking very hopeful for Summer, with solicitor Adam Barlow (Sam Robertson) having encouraged her to plead guilty to manslaughter to reduce the amount of time she could end up spending behind bars.
In tonight’s episode, desperate Summer took heartbreaking action to escape her hopeless situation.
When Todd arrived at the hospital, he was horrified to learn that Summer had had a hyper.

Todd railed at the prison officer for not being mindful of her diabetes until Summer corrected him, revealing that she had deliberately turned off her insulin pump.
When Todd questioned her actions, Summer admitted that she couldn’t stand being in prison any longer, and needed to get out.
Though Todd tried to encourage her not to give up, Summer already seemed resigned to the fact that prison was in her future.
However, with so many cobbles residents hiding secrets about the night of Theo’s murder, will any of them finally tell the truth and get Summer off the hook?
