The two Roys close in on Sam and things get dangerous in new Coronation Street spoiler video
This is the moment a terrified Sam Blakeman (Jude Riordan) in Coronation Street sees two Roy Croppers (David Neilson) standing in front of him.
Youngster Sam has been struggling with his mental health ever since he worked out Megan Walsh (Beth Nixon) was abusing Will Driscoll (Lucas Hodgson-Wale). After Megan’s true self was exposed, Sam’s situation spiralled further as he began experiencing auditory and visual hallucinations.
At first, they were of Will, who made it clear that he hated Sam for telling everyone about his relationship with Megan.
Over the past few weeks though, Sam has started seeing a version of Roy. We know Roy is a kind and gentle man, but the variant that is in Sam’s head gives him dangerous advice.
In a few days time, ‘Roy’ will urge Sam to take control and rid himself of Will once and for all.
When Sam asserts that he isn’t a violent person, Roy accuses him of being a coward and says that their friendship is over.
Sam then heads to the Rovers and finds Will alone in the back room, far too busy with a shooting-based video game to realise Sam is there. As Will plays his game, Sam hears Roy warning him that Will is going to kill him too.
He makes a run for it, but Will goes after him, concerned. Sam rushes into the cafe and locks the door behind him.
In this new video, while Sam panics inside, Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson) is outside, frantically calling Nick Tilsley (Ben Price) to update him about his son.
As Sam’s fear grows, the real version of Roy appears and asks if Sam is okay. To the boy’s horror, he can see one variation of Roy sitting on a chair, and another standing beside the wall.
The one sitting on the chair – that is a figment of Sam’s imagination – tells him that he’s seeing double because Will is tricking him.
Sam manages to make a run for it out of the cafe, and is later found by Carla Connor-Swain (Alison King).
Noticing the fear on Sam’s face, Carla does her very best to reassure him while reaching for her phone to call Nick.
After making the call, Carla tries to pacify an agitated Sam, but when Nick and David Platt (Jack P Shepherd) appear, he makes a run for it.
Deeply upset, Carla explains that she thinks Sam is suffering from psychosis.
Discussing these scenes, and witnessing star Jude Riordan play Sam in this storyline, actor Ben Price told us: It’s very tricky in the show to go from a child actor to, you know, your voice breaks, you get bigger, and you’re given a story which brilliantly bridges the child-to-adult story. Which
you’re carrying.
‘We did talk about it a lot. We’re quite close in a very work way. We’re very good at sitting down and going, “What do they need from the scene?” I remember we did an early scene where he lost it, and I said, “I think we go for this. I think we really go for it, because I think you’re leading this now.” When he was younger, I would probably be more of the driving force, but I said, “I think you are now. This is your story.”
Ben smiled: ‘Selfishly, I want him to be brilliant, and he is brilliant. When you’re with someone who’s discovering that power as an actor, in an adult story, it’s really amazing to watch.
‘He is really, really good and such a nice young lad as well. Super level, super diligent, but also, he’s got a bit of a Platt about him. It’s been really lovely for me. I get to work with a really good actor, and it makes me better.’
