Former Coronation Street star Dominic Rickhards is returning to the cobbles after 25 years – albeit in a different role.

The actor, 59, played occupational therapist Michael Wall in the ITV soap intermittently for two and a half years.

Michael arrived to support Jim McDonald (Charles Lawson), who had been accidentally pushed off some scaffolding by son Steve (Simon Gregson), and was requiring the use of a wheelchair.

They soon became good friends – but Jim was unaware that he had eyes for his wife Liz (Beverley Callard).

Embarking on an affair, the two later became engaged. Liz then left with him for his new job in Milton Keynes.

The grass wasn’t greener on the other side, however. Liz returned to Weatherfield when Jim was charged with the manslaughter of Jez Quigley (Lee Boardman), and ended her relationship with Michael.

Now, almost two and a half decades since his last appearance, Dominic is heading back to the Salford backstreet and shacking up with another Rovers landlady.

As viewers have seen, Jenny Connor (Sally Ann Matthews) has had an almighty fall out with step-daughter Daisy (Charlotte Jordan) after Daniel Osbourne (Rob Mallard)’s son Bertie almost drowned while under Jenny’s care.

In shocking scenes, Jenny then blamed Daisy for the death of her son Tom, who also drowned when he was a toddler, saying she had similarly taken her eyes off him.

We’ve since seen Daisy’s mum Christina Boyd (Amy Robbins) stage a grand comeback, as part of a revenge plan.

The pair have set up a fake dating profile of a man called Dom and lured Jenny into a trap.

Christina even ordered flowers to be delivered, supposedly from the new fella.

Next week, Dom arrives in the pub and Daisy is taken aback. But this is just stage two of Christina’s plan…

He tells Jenny of his plans to sell his business, and wants her to cash in on it so that she can double her investment.

She’s immediately drawn in, as a gleeful Daisy and Christina get ready to get their hands on her money – therefore preventing her from buying the Rovers from current owner Carla Connor (Alison King).

As shown in next week’s spoiler pictures, actor Dominic will be taking on the role of Dom, or rather the person hired to pose as Dom, in these scenes.

Away from The Street, he’s taken on roles in Hollyoaks and Midsomer Murders, as well as ITV’s failed attempt at a supernatural soap, Night & Day.

It’s likely he could be around for some time, as after jumping into bed with Jenny, Christina and Daisy believe their plan could be about to fail.

This story will eventually lead to actress Charlotte Jordan’s exit after 5 years.
