Coronation Street airs ‘confusing’ twist for Sarah and Gary as fans ‘freak out’
Coronation Street viewers have been left "confused" by a twist involving Sarah Platt and Gary Windass and urged bosses of the ITV soap to figure out the "balance" within storylines
Coronation Street has left fans “confused” with the latest development in the whodunnit plot. In April, evil scaffolder Theo Silverton, who was played by former Tracy Beaker star James Cartwright, was found dead at the end of a much-hyped Murder Week, in which he was one of five antagonists who could have been killed off.
It followed a tense issue-based plot, which saw him abuse Todd Grimshaw ( Gareth Pierce ) for almost a year and Todd himself, Theo’s colleague Gary Windass (Mikey Norton), Todd’s surrogate father George Shuttleworth (Tony Maudsley), his partner Christina Boyd (Amy Robbins) and Theo’s ex-wife Danielle Anderson, played by former Emmerdale star Natalie Anderson, were the official suspects, along with Todd’s adoptive daughter Summer (Harriet Bibby).
DS Lisa Swain, who usually locks up innocent people, has had Summer charged with murder and she is currently in Weatherfield General after falling ill in prison. But on Sunday night’s edition of the world’s longest-running TV soap, which was moved from its Friday usual slot due to the football, things became stranger between Gary and his former partner Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien).
Early on, DC Kit Green, who is currently in a relationship with Sarah, started quizzing Gary about Todd’s phone, which was found in the skip by the builder’s yard, but thanks to the fact that Gary had previously wiped the CCTV footage from that night, police are no further forward. More convinced than ever that Gary is hiding something, Sarah was later seen picking up the phone as she said: “Hi. I need to see you.”
Sarah called round to Gary’s flat where they hugged and he reassured her: “He’s not gonna find any evidence cos there isn’t any. It’ll be all right.” It was then that Gary’s wife Maria appeared at home, and Sarah hid round a corner as he feigned an excuse to get her out of the house to go to the pub.
Over at the Rovers, Todd raged at his neighbours that Summer, a diabetic, had stopped taking her insulin in an attempt to risk her own life for fear that she may be sent down for a crime she did not commit.
At that point, Gary raced out into the backyard of the pub and told Maria he was feeling faint because he had not eaten. Sarah followed him, and Gary said: ” I’m falling to bits here. I can see that. What about Summer? I know! I can’t do this any more. I don’t know how much more of this I can take,” and Sarah pulled him in for a hug.
