Danny Dyer has revealed how he unintentionally gained a stone in weight during filming on the second series of the champagne sloshing, shoulder pad popping TV series, Rivals, which lands on Disney plus next week.
The former EastEnders actor, 48, who stars alongside some of the biggest names in showbusiness, including David Tennant, 55, Aidan Turner, 42 and Emily Atack, 36, also confessed that he was lonely during the 10-month filming process.
He said: “I was missing everyone, I was quite lonely on that one, Rivals, but Rivals is done for now and in the can. But while I was playing Fred, Fred, I have put on a stone.
“My diet was awful, living on my jack jones in Bristol and eating on Deliveroo’s and buying a pack of sausages which is a 12 pack and cooking them all of a night and making myself a couple of sandwiches, which is awful for my cholesterol. I am not advising any man my age to eat 12 sausages and then I got constipated.”
Adapted from the late Jilly Cooper’s 1988 novel, was the TV event of 2024, with critics raving about the gripping drama of sex, power and Eighties excess.
Dyer will also be seen in a new ITV, Rivals inspired gameshow alongside his co-star Emily Atak, called, Nobody’s Fool, launching later this month.
Recently the TV and film star has also appeared in a reality show-The Dyer’ Caravan Park- with his daughter Dani, 29, which sees the pair taking a tour of Britain’s holiday parks.
Indeed, having landed his big break in the Brit flick, The Football Factory back in 2004, this year marked a beautiful game themed return to the big screen for Danny, starring this time, as a football agent, Jimmy Banks, in the thriller, One Last Deal, which was released in March.
Having endured periods of time out of work, the dad -of-three admits that his earlier struggle has made him eager to make as much money as possible while he can.
Speaking on his Live and Let Dyers podcast, he said: ‘I am so busy at the moment and it’s the greed of it all.
“I’ve been around a long time, and I reckon I’ve only really had continuous success in the last 15 years, before that I made a lot of films, but I wasn’t being paid a lot of money, and I never knew when the phone was going to ring. But now I am in this purple patch, I am just taking, job after job after job.’
