Emmerdale star makes major career change in ‘hard-hitting’ thriller film
Former Emmerdale star Joe Gill has taken on a completely new role in a ‘hard-hitting’ thriller film.
Best known to soap fans as Finn Barton, actor Joe left the show in 2017 and the character was killed off.
Now, he is taking on the lead role of Danny in the film Treading Water.
As Danny is released from prison into the tough reality of supported housing, he tries to take control of his life whilst dealing with the mental health issues that have shaped him.
The film tells the story of how a chance encounter with a past love becomes an obsession that leads to tragic consequences.
It also explores how all choices are limited to what is in front of you, even when that means no choice at all, and how we are all ultimately just trying to get by each day, even if sometimes it feels like we are only treading water.

Filmed in Manchester, Treading Water also stars Becky Bowe, Darryl Clark and Darren Connolly, with direction from Gino Evans.
‘Treading Water looks with compassion and bracing realism at the lack of opportunity afforded to many people in British society,’ BFI said when it premiered at the London Film Festival last October.
‘It’s a fascinating portrait of a changing city and evidence of an authentic Northern voice.’

Since leaving Emmerdale, Joe has also appeared in numerous other projects, including series such as Brassic and Wuthering Heights.
During his time on the ITV soap, his character Finn was involved in some major storylines.
From finding his biological mother to the tragic loss of his dad, Finn’s family life was often the cause of plenty of drama.
He met his maker four years after arriving in the Dales when he was accidentally shot by mum Emma Barton, and suffered a cardiac arrest in hospital.
