Emma Atkins has teased the Charity Dingle we know and love could finally fight back on Emmerdale.

She’s currently in turmoil over her baby lie, that has been discovered by Dr Todd. Todd is blackmailing her for cash, after learning that the baby Charity carried for her granddaughter Sarah Sugden and Sarah’s husband Jacob was not their biological child.

A fling with Ross Barton saw Charity fall pregnant, and they’ve kept it all a secret. Aid Todd’s feud with Jacob, she’s ready to spill the beans to him that he is not baby Leyla’s real dad unless Charity pays up.

But while Charity admits defeat next week, actress Emma has hinted it might be the case as things go on. Speaking to The Mirror and other press, Emma hinted that Charity could soon fight back, and could be biding her time.

She revealed: “They enter the game of cat and mouse and will she go along with it? Not without a fight, but yeah, at the moment she has to play along with Todd’s demands for complicity, you know, which she does. I love it.”

So does Emma saying “at the moment” and “not without a fight” confirm Todd could be challenged soon? Emma says Charity is living in constant fear that at any moment, Todd could expose her secret.

Emma told us: “It’s constantly that horror for Charity of being in that moment where any moment Todd could let it out. What’s stopping her? So every moment is that moment.”

But Emma is hopeful Charity will have the backing of Cain Dingle after a recent scene saw him vow to step up for her should she need it. Emma said: “It’s going to be very symbolic because it’s already coming up in more scripts where she actually hands it to Moses and I don’t know where they’re going with that at the moment.

“I definitely know that they’re planting that for reasons where she’s going to maybe…it’s a big cry for help in the future. So I’m excited to see where that goes.”

Emma also confessed she’d be relieved when all was revealed. She shared: “Oh, absolutely. I mean, for me, as an actor, playing a storyline where you’re spinning as many plates as you can is the best challenge. I love every part of this storyline but yeah, in terms of just that point where you just want to blurt it out.

“You know, over and done with this constant exhaustion of chasing your tail. But yeah, it’s exhausting for someone having to cover up to this degree. Todd is not someone to mess with.”

With Charity’s ex Vanessa Woodfield now also involved as a love interest for Dr Todd, Emma revealed Charity’s horror at something happening to her. Emma said: “I don’t necessarily know whether she’s still in love or not, but she cares so much for her.

“She doesn’t want her to get hurt and then obviously when she walks into the house and Todd says, ‘get out of my house’, which is brilliant. Brilliantly done. She’s like, ‘this is Vanessa’s house!’ She’s genuinely worried because she feels Todd’s got an agenda and she doesn’t know at this point.

“I don’t know about jealousy, but there’s a moment that suggests there could be a moment between them but, I mean, it’s human, isn’t it? It’s human nature to feel that sometimes when you’ve been with someone that you really love and then see someone else with them, but the majority of it is just genuine concern, I guess.”
