Charity faces her darkest day in Emmerdale spoiler video as Dr Todd looms large

Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) will be subjected to a horrific attack by Doctor Caitlin Todd (Caroline Harker) in Emmerdale soon.

Over the past few weeks, Dr Todd has taken great pleasure in blackmailing Charity over the truth about baby Leyla’s parentage.

At first, Caitlin wanted £10,000 from Charity, but she upped this price to £100k after discovering that she’s the Woolpack co-owner.

All Charity has wanted throughout this entire ordeal is to keep her secret hidden because she doesn’t want to break Sarah and Jacob Sugden’s (Katie Hill and Joe-Warren Plant) hearts. A couple of days ago, she proved that she’d do whatever it takes to keep them in the dark by asking Kim Tate (Claire King) to buy her shares of the pub.

Kim wasn’t interested though, which meant Charity got more desperate and tried to rob the safe at Home Farm. She was caught by Lydia Dingle (Karen Blick), but didn’t treat this as a sign that she needed to stop and tell everyone the truth.

Charity headed up to the depot, and stole products that allowed her to give Caitlin £30k.

Because this wicked woman enjoys making Charity’s life as chaotic as possible, she told her that if she didn’t get the rest of the money by tomorrow – or Sunday in our case – then she’ll tell everyone about baby Leyla at Sarah’s 21st birthday party.

In this new video, Doctor Todd is in the pub with Manpreet Sharma (Rebecca Sarker), enjoying a drink while Charity and Jacob get the pub ready for Sarah’s birthday.

Doctor Todd forces Charity into the corner to pin a picture of Sarah on the wall next to her. This is a prime opportunity for Todd to drop a few more comments about Leyla being Charity’s child, and how birthday celebrations always cost so much money.

Charity suddenly flees the pub after claiming that she needs to take Moses to football. Either she genuinley cannot stand to be in the same room as Doctor Todd anymore, or she’s worked out another way to get her money.

These scenes will air on Sunday, June 7, and will happen before Doctor Todd sexually assaults Charity.

The ITV soap aims to explore the complex feelings of isolation that survivors can experience in the aftermath of the attack, particularly in the context of female-on-female assault.

In the episodes that follow, Charity will struggle to come to terms with the assault, having to choose between confiding in her loved ones, or internalising the trauma.

Producer of the show Sophie Roper discussed the important storyline and said: ‘Charity’s storyline will explore the impact of sexual violence, and though this heinous act is fundamentally about power, we’ll explore the complexities of how Charity processes her trauma when the perpetrator is a woman.

‘With little conversation surrounding female-on-female assault, we’ll explore the overwhelming feelings of isolation many survivors experience and will examine the disparity between the legal term sexual assault and the fact that many women in Charity’s position feel this minimises what’s happened to them, because they feel like they’ve been raped.

‘Though difficult viewing at times, Charity’s resilience will inspire hope as she confronts what has happened to her.’

Star Emma Atkins added: ‘This has been one of the most demanding and significant storylines I’ve had to navigate as Charity. We know her as a tough, resilient character, but this trauma will expose a deep, raw vulnerability that has been heartbreaking at times to play.

‘I hope this storyline gives even one person the courage to speak out or helps others understand the quiet devastation of trauma.’
