Hollyoaks star reveals Peri’s long-term future after Abe plot

Hollyoaks star Ruby O’Donnell has revealed what the future holds for her character Peri Lomax following Abe Fielding’s shocking abuse.

Last month, Cleo escaped former partner Abe’s clutches and crashed his wedding day to Peri, but Marie accidentally hit her with her car and she has remained in a coma ever since.

It was also recently revealed that Abe raped Peri’s mum Leela at a party during the show’s missing year, though she isn’t aware that Abe is the culprit.

In scenes that aired this week, Peri became suspicious of Abe when she found a pillowcase in his cupboard that matched the material of Cleo’s makeshift wedding dress.

She investigates further next week and confronts Abe about what she has found, but the situation escalates and Abe hits her. O’Donnell also recently confirmed that Peri will be raped by Abe while she is unconscious.

Speaking to Inside Soap, O’Donnell addressed Peri’s long-term future and how she will fare mentally after the harrowing ordeal.

“She’s bounced back from so much trauma: grief, death, homelessness,” she said. “This is something that she’s never been through before but it won’t shape her as a human – she absolutely can get back to normal and come back stronger. I hope she learns from her mistakes and doesn’t let them define her.”

As for how Peri reacts when she finally discovers Abe’s true colours, the actor shared: “The audience are well aware of what a manipulating abuser Abe is, and have been asking why Peri would get together with him in the first place,

“To Peri he was this amazing, lovely guy who could do nothing wrong, but when the truth starts coming out, we’re reminded of how strong Peri is – and that she actually doesn’t take any nonsense from anybody.”
