Brookside Close locals to open doors for shocking Hollyoaks storyline

The crossover isn't far away!

The crossover between Brookside and Hollyoaks is taking shape, with filming set to begin in the real-life street in the near future.

It was announced last week that the iconic Channel 4 soap would be returning for a special episode as part of Hollyoaks‘ 30th anniversary celebrations, which are due to take place in October.

While we already knew that the real-life Brookside Close would be used as the filming location for the special instalment, it has now been revealed that cameras will also be moved into two houses in the close, which is in Liverpool.

“We know that they’re coming for a day [to film] and I think they’re going into two of the houses,” said one resident of the street (via BBC News), before adding that a “tremendous” number of people would visit the cul-de-sac each year.

While the exact nature of the crossover is currently unknown, it was confirmed earlier today that Sue Johnston would take part, with the actor set to reprise her iconic role of Sheila Grant.

Johnston, who played the character from 1982 until her departure 1990, said in a statement: “It’ll be so lovely to go back and be Sheila for a day as it was such a big, enjoyable part of my life.”

Upon the crossover’s announcement, Hollyoaks executive producer Hannah Cheers said that the event would be a “love letter” to both soaps, adding: “Hollyoaks‘ history is deeply rooted in Brookside, and its legacy lives on through our crew and, of course, some of our cast.

“This special feels like both a moving and fitting tribute to our origin story and a chance for fans to revisit much-loved Brookside characters in honour of that legacy… As a lifelong soap fan, I was passionate about revisiting Brookside for the anniversary.”

“It is always bittersweet thinking back to Brookie, the reminders of its success and impact,” added Phil Redmond, who created both soaps. “It is great that Lime Pictures are paying homage in their Hollyoaks anniversary crossover episodes.”
