Hollyoaks star teases drama for Donny and Misbah after time jump

"It's going to be a bumpy ride."

Hollyoaks spoilers follow.

Hollyoaks star Louis Emerick has teased that there is drama to come for Donny Clark and Misbah Maalik.

Viewers have seen Donny and Misbah embark on a new relationship, after Misbah’s husband Zain left the village for a new life in Scotland earlier this year.

This week, Hollyoaks jumped forward a year in time, and although there were lots of change in the village, it was revealed that Donny and Misbah were still going strong as a couple.

Speaking exclusively to Digital Spy at a recent press event, actor Louis explained that his initial chemistry with co-star Harvey Virdi could have inspired the pairing.

“When I came for my screen test back in October, it was with Harvey,” he said. “So I don’t know what came first, whether they already had the idea or whether the screen test gave Hannah [Cheers, executive producer] an idea.

“When we saw that they were going to become a couple, I was made up because we’d had this little shorthand back in October, and I knew she was going to be nice and easy and lovely to work with.”

There was cause for celebration in Monday’s episode (September 16), as Donny popped the question and he and Misbah got engaged. But Louis has teased that the couple’s happily ever after might not be so straightforward.

“Well, let’s just say that it’s going to be a bumpy ride!” he said. “As with soaps, nothing ever runs smoothly. So there’ll be a few ups and downs.”

It was also revealed that Donny’s daughter Vicky is now in an unexpected relationship with Robbie, after a previous fling with Ethan.

Louis explained that he relishes the opportunity to work with a range of cast members, with the sense of community at the forefront of this new era of Hollyoaks.

He said: “When I first came in, you wouldn’t see anybody outside of your bubble. But now, because they’ve cut the cast down a bit and gone to three episodes, you’re now getting involved with other characters, which is great.

“It’s a bit like Brookside with three episodes – when something happened to the Johnsons, it involved the Farnhams, the Dixons. And we’re kind of getting a bit of that now [in Hollyoaks], and so it’s nice to play that and see other characters.

“And Charlie [Wernham] who plays Robbie, he’s a dream. We keep having this joke that [our characters] will probably end up as lovers at the end of it!”
