Hollyoaks star Tisha Merry nearly played a McQueen – 15 years ago
"I got down to the last three!"

Hollyoaks actor Tisha Merry is currently tackling the role of Gemma Johnson, the estranged daughter of Brookside legend Mick Johnson (aka Hollyoaks‘ Donny Clark). However, Tisha has now revealed to Inside Soap that she almost played a very different character in the soap, having auditioned to be a part of the famous McQueen family.
“About 15 years ago I got down to the last three to play Phoebe McQueen, along with Mandip Gill and Nadine Mulkerrin,” Tisha reveals. “Mandip obviously got the part, then Nadine joined as Cleo in 2015, and now I’m here! It’s hilarious the three of us were up for the same job and we’ve all ended up on Hollyoaks at some point!”
“Nadine is phenomenal, I’d love more scenes with her as we’ve known each other for years,” she continues. “And Mandip hasn’t stopped working, she’s amazing. Every now and again we’ll have a little catch-up chat on Insta!”
Hollyoaks isn’t the only soap that Tisha has starred in either – she also appeared in Coronation Street at Steph Britton for four years.
Tisha’s character Gemma is currently finding herself involved in McQueen drama, as Mercedes McQueen is set to suggest that she and Gemma share their ex Warren Fox, and both date him on different days.
The proposition comes after Mercedes’ release from rehab, as she’s determined to raise her and Warren’s kids together but doesn’t have the energy to fight Gemma for him, as Tisha explains.
“Nothing like this ever ends well, and it soon becomes a problem!” teases Tisha. “Normally there’s no way on this planet Mercedes would ever share anybody, but both her and Gemma are quite vulnerable in what they’re going through. Neither are their normal selves right now. Obviously, Warren is over the moon!”
“He doesn’t deserve either of them!” she laughs. “The three of us joke about it. I don’t believe he has any true respect for Gemma or Mercedes and definitely doesn’t deserve to have both of them, and probably won’t for very long!”
