Hollyoaks spoilers follow.

Hollyoaks has revealed new turmoil for Mercedes McQueen as she learns of Diane Hutchinson’s devastating cancer news. Diane recently learned that she had stage four ovarian cancer, which will form the centre of star Alex Fletcher’s exit storyline.

While she didn’t initially tell husband Tony the tragic news, he eventually found out, and the pair are yet to tell their children, lying that Tony’s brother Dom had cancer.

They have also spun the lie that a visit to London is to see a marriage counsellor, when in fact they are meeting a doctor get a second opinion on whether the cancer is terminal.

In new scenes set to air next week, Diane is feeling let down by her kids on Mother’s Day, though admits to Tony that she is determined to make the most she can of family time. The couple head on their planned trip to London as Dom looks after the children.

Meanwhile, Ste returns from holiday, as Leela relays the devastating news about Diane to him. Mercedes, who recently returned from rehab, also learns about Diane’s prognosis.

She tries to get in touch with Warren, but has no luck as he is busy kidnapping Jenson Cole (who claims to be his brother), and in a moment of desperation turns to alcohol as she struggles with the news, having battled cancer herself.

“Diane’s long-term friends are shocked by her incurable cancer diagnosis, but this is bound to hit home for Mercedes especially,” our Hollyoaks insider said.

“Mercedes recently survived an aggressive form of bowel cancer that at one point she thought was terminal. So Diane’s tragic news will no doubt make Mercedes reflect on what she’s been though – and could sadly lead her to relapse.”
