Hollyoaks confirms explosive McQueen clashes as new Kathleen-Angel arrives

"Theresa goes about things in a chaotic way!"

Hollyoaks spoilers follow.

There’s drama to come in Hollyoaks‘ legendary McQueen household, as Theresa struggles to deal with Kathleen-Angel. The clashes come after Theresa discovers that her daughter has slept with Ant Hutchinson, the brother of Kathleen-Angel’s best friend Ro.

The character of Kathleen-Angel has been recast for the storyline, with Naledi Rapotu taking over the role from Kiara Mellor after the latter’s four-year stint on the Channel 4 soap came to an end.

As part of our Mother’s Day special issue, Inside Soap sat down with Naledi and Jorgie Porter, who plays Theresa, to discuss the growing tension between the mother and daughter.

“There is definitely friction between them, and a lot of shouting!” laughs Jorgie, who first played Theresa in 2008. “Kathleen-Angel is at an age where she thinks she can do what she wants.

“My mum was a single parent and I remember what I put her through, reading the script I was like: ‘Yes, I’ve been there!’ That’s why when you’re older you take your mum to the spa because you feel a bit bad.”

When Theresa finds out about Kathleen-Angel and Ant, she’s horrified due to his past behaviour, as he previously fell under the spell of Prince McQueen’s misogynistic online videos and smashed up Darren Osborne’s taxi. Despite this, Kathleen-Angel insists that Ant has changed – but Theresa isn’t so sure.

“To Kathleen-Angel, this means she’s one step closer to being an adult which correlates to her rebelling a bit more – whatever her mum says, she’s still going to do her own thing and Theresa can’t stop her,” reveals Naledi.

“Theresa doesn’t want her daughter to make the same mistakes she did,” Jorgie adds. “I think Theresa is regretting being away so much, jetting off to Japan and Spain. She wants to be a good mum, but obviously she’s not!

“Kathleen-Angel is becoming more mature, but Theresa is blind to how she should be dealing with her. As usual, she goes about things in a chaotic way.”
