Earlier this month, Diane received the devastating news that she had stage four ovarian cancer. After trying to shield their children from the truth, Diane and Tony ultimately told Dee Dee, Ant and Ro that their mum only had a few months to live.

The kids struggled to get their heads around the information and enquired about treatment options. But Diane explained that chemotherapy would only buy her a small amount of time and would leave her feeling weak and exhausted.

Next week, desperate Tony brings up chemo once again and urges Diane to at least consider the treatment. Though it would prolong her life, Diane is still concerned about the potentially debilitating side effects.

Kathleen-Angel heads over to The Dog flat to find out why the Hutchinson teens skipped school. When Ro reveals Diane’s diagnosis, shocked Kathleen Angel tries to comfort her heartbroken friends.

Later, Ro tearfully apologises for calling Diane selfish and ignoring her calls while he processed the news. The youngster breaks down in his mum’s arms, and she assures him it’s going to be okay.

Meanwhile, as Ant comforts Dee Dee, he reminds her that they have to be strong to support their parents through this tough time. The pair don’t realise that Diane is listening in while pretending to be asleep.

“The Hutchinsons are in complete shock about Diane’s news,” says our insider, “but they are thankfully able to come together next week, and they have the total support of their loved ones.

“But while Tony is keen for his wife to have chemotherapy to prolong her life, Diane is less sure. It’s the most heartbreaking of decisions to make…”
