Alex Fletcher is bowing out of the role after 16 years on the Channel 4 soap this year. Her character Diane has sadly been diagnosed with ovarian cancer, with her told her condition is terminal.
Diane will lose her life in the heartbreaking plot, with Alex stopping filming. Hollyoaks have yet to confirm when Alex will leave the show, and when Diane’s final scenes will air.
Only this week fans believed they had seen pictures of cast filming a funeral, wondering if it was Diane’s send-off. Alex also threw a bash to celebrate her departure with her co-stars and pals.

Still though, it’s not known how long Diane has left onscreen and when she will leave. But speaking exclusively to The Mirror at the Royal Television Society Awards recently, her co-star Kieron Richardson dropped a massive hint.
The Ste Hay actor told us the event was Alex’s final outing with her co-stars. Not only that, but he said she didn’t have long left filming with them, meaning she would be wrapping up pretty soon – if she hasn’t already.
With scenes airing around six to eight weeks after filming often in soap land, that means if she wraps up this month, or has wrapped up, Diane may die very soon. It could be around May or June that her final scenes air.
Kieron explained: “The fact that Hollyoaks has made it to 30 years is a massive achievement. We have always been known as the underdogs or the baby of the soaps, but we did it. It’s been a special year.

“Alex Fletcher is leaving us. She was obviously Jacqui Dixon in Brookside. She has played Diane in Hollyoaks for 15 years now. We’ve got the cancer storyline in the village at the minute.
“But it is heartbreaking to watch. She has not got long left with us. She is here with us tonight, so it’s a sad time because it is her last awards with us.” Kieron’s co-star Jessica Fox previously told the Mirror her reaction to Alex leaving.
She said: “I was fuming with her to be perfectly honest. I think it’s really rude she’s leaving us. How dare you make a decision about your own life? I adore Alex and I think she is just the most fun.”
