Hollyoaks has confirmed the survival of Charlie Dean (Charlie Behan) after his vehicle overturned amid a brutal crash with the Keane clans’ removal van.

Fans have feared that Charlie, who staged an unexpected return to the Channel 4 soap last year and featured in the Hollyoaks Later comeback, would die in the devastating carnage that unfolded onscreen this week.

The beloved character, who is on the cusp of going on a date with Vicky Grant (Anya Lawrence), was driving sister Frankie Osborne (Isabelle Smith) to the train station at the time of the collision.

Frankie, as viewers know, is due to start at a dance school in London this week, fulfilling her life-long dream.

But while on the road, she realised that she’d left behind her ballet shoes, a gift from dad Darren (Ashley Taylor Dawson) and stepmum Nancy (Jessica Fox), and thus instructed Charlie to turn the vehicle around.

The trio found themselves travelling slowly behind newcomers Jonah (Matthew Wolfenden), Beth (Rebecca Ryan) and Caleb (Lewis Walton), who had just packed up their life in a bid to move to Hollyoaks village for a fresh start.

Frankie urged Charlie to overtake the van, beeping the horn to let driver Jonah know to pull over. Beth (Rebecca Ryan) encouraged Jonah to do so but he refused.

Caleb, meanwhile, unbuckled his seatbelt to reach for his phone charger, but tragedy subsequently struck, with Charlie clipping the new family’s van when attempting to take over, leading to a devastating crash.

Caleb went headfirst through the windscreen as Jonah attempted to regain control of his vehicle in the wake of the incident before colliding with roadside machinery.

Charlie’s car, meanwhile, went flying into the forest nearby, leaving his, Frankie’s and Vicky’s lives in danger.

Hollyoaks fans will just have to wait and see the outcome of the crash – particularly regarding who pulls through – but new spoilers for next week have confirmed that Charlie is out of the woods.

Next Monday, Jack (Jimmy McKenna) watches in distress as his relatives feud at the hospital. The patriarch is determined to find out what happened and thus quizzes Charlie, encouraging him to come clean.

Later, the police arrive at the Osborne’s home to escort Charlie to the station – except he’s not there. With all the facts unknown, Nancy is defensive of Charlie.

Jack, meanwhile, doesn’t quite know who to believe as there are conflicting stories about what really transpired that night. Will he get to the bottom of it?

And while we know that Charlie is okay, the question is: is everyone else? Or has more tragedy occurred?
