Child shaken to the core as mum’s role in Joel Deering’s death is ‘confirmed’ in Coronation Street
Betsy Swain (Sydney Martin) is set to be left shaken in upcoming Coronation Street scenes when she ‘works out’ DS Lisa Swain’s (Vicky Myers) role in Joel Deering’s (Calum Lill) death.
Joel’s body was recently pulled out of a river, with the pathologist’s report confirming that he had been murdered before entering the water.
In upcoming scenes, Lisa busies herself with the case of a vandalised car, but the cogs start whirring when she realises that the damage occurred on the same road Joel was attacked on, and the same night.
What’s more, the owner reveals that he heard two men arguing outside the flat that very night.
Later, she confides in Dee-Dee Bailey (Channique Sterling-Brown) that the car was damaged by a red car, and as she continues her investigation she comes to realise that Ronnie Bailey’s (Vinta Morgan) red car has recently been in for repair.
Eager to pursue the lead, she tackles him in the Rovers.
Later, during a conversation with Carla Connor (Alison King), Lisa flinches when Carla attempts to lay a comforting hand on her, and ends up rushing out.
The next day, Betsy is horrified when she walks into the bathroom to see Lisa covered in bruises.
Though Lisa insists that they have come from a body combat class, Betsy is unconvinced – and her worries only grow from there.
After finding a bottle of painkillers labelled September 28, Betsy takes her findings to Mason Radcliffe (Luca Toolan), who points out that Joel was murdered on September 27.
Betsy’s horror only increases when she later learns from Daisy Midgeley (Charlotte Jordan) that Joel got into a fight on the night of his death.
The next day, Lisa continues to lie to Betsy about the origin of her bruises, this time insisting that they were the result of an office injury.

‘The fact that she’s come out with something not really convincing, and also Betsy knows her all too well, says a lot,’ actress Vicky Myers revealed.
‘She was put on the spot, because the way that it happens, she’s in the safety of her own bathroom and she doesn’t for one second feel that Betsy is going to just come barging in. So she was caught off guard. She’s been out of sorts for a few weeks. We’ve definitely seen her in pain. So what has happened here?’
When she heads to the station, Lisa points out to Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) that if Joel was planning to go on the run then he would have had some personal belongings with him, and if they could find them then it could lead them to his killer.
Kit is clearly annoyed by her interference, and when a formal complaint is later raised against her, she rails at Kit and Daisy – but is she on the right track?
